Book review

I’ve just finished reading a non-fictional book, which is named Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything. In this novel the writer, whose name is Elizabeth Gilbert, tells of her worldwide journey after she divorced her first husband.

In one year, she travelled to three countries and spent four months in each place. In Rome, Italy, she learned a new language and made a lot of new friends, eating and enjoying pleasure. In India, she lived in an Ashram, finding her spirituality by the hard work of devotional life. She ended the year in Bali, Indonesia, searching for the balance of pleasure and devotion. She raised money for an Indonesian woman to build a new home, and fell in love with a handsome Brazilian businessman before she left Bali.

This novel is very interesting. The sentences are beautiful and easy to read. There are also some philosophic and religious thoughts in this book. Do you know how to live with happiness and enjoy pleasure? According to the writer, it depends on our thoughts, and it also depends on searching for a perfect balance between both inside and outside ourselves. Then, what can we do to reach that balance and find freedom in our lives? The answer is just to learn to let go – let the past go, and to prepare yourself with happiness for tomorrow – the rest of your life. I think these ideas are helpful and worthy of reference. However, sometimes, they are easy to think about but not easy to do so.

I quite enjoy this book. I think it is a good novel, and it is really worth spending your time reading.
